Our Workshop Is
- A community-run NPO focused on intercultural creative professional development and upcycling
- A free-to-use space in Langa, Cape Town
- Collaboratively built by all members
- A space for social design
- A space for emergent design and innovation
- Focussed on working with all types of ‘waste’ materials – fabric scraps, post-consumer plastic bottles, donated materials, second hand clothes, electronic waste etc.
- A sister company to Our Workshop Projects
OUR AIM
- To bridge cultural divides in the world’s most unequal city – by making things together
- To create a collaborative support system for all members
- To all benefit from the space we build together
- To actively create a culture of inclusivity
- To show how creativity can transform ‘waste’ materials into innovative design
- To raise awareness about post consumer plastic waste as a valuable resource
WHAT WE’RE DOING
- We’re making a space for intercultural exchange and sharing, contributing to nation building in post apartheid South Africa
- We share a workshop in Langa: making things takes time and time shared is the best way to form close interpersonal bonds
- We are a community of makers, designers and artists that empowers and supports each other through skill sharing and access to tools and materials
- We’re using all sorts of waste streams to do innovative upcycling and thrifting
- We’re trying to collaboratively grow a new type of NPO, based on the needs of the members – in as non-hierarchical a way as we can
