Stage for Afrikaburn Streetopia 2019
For the Afrikaburn annual street festival – Streetopia – we were asked to construct one of the music stages on Lower Main Road in Observatory.
For this project, for the first time one of our Langa members (Mpilo Headman) took over the project management of the whole thing. Part of the core belief system at Our Workshop is to allow our members to grow through experience. Mpilo says of the experience : “I have always been a person who loves music. I am a musician and a performer and when I joined our workshop, I had the idea of integrating these things into my practice there. Managing this project was a bit hectic, but I love the fact that I was with the other members of Our Workshop and we got to have a collaboration of ideas besides my own. Thanks to Heath, Sizwe, Athi and Anele we made our first successful stage.”
